Few floors match polished concrete for durability, low maintenance and clean modern looks. Goliath Coatings grinds and polishes concrete floors across Auckland for warehouses, retail spaces, showrooms and homes — turning a plain or tired slab into a dense, dust-free, hard-wearing finished surface.
What polished concrete actually is
Polished concrete is a mechanical process, not a coating. We grind the slab through progressively finer diamond abrasives and densify it with a chemical hardener, which closes the surface, hardens it and brings up a sheen that can run from a matte satin to a high gloss. Because the finish is the concrete itself, there is no film to peel, scratch off or recoat.
Why businesses choose it
A polished concrete floor stops the dusting that bare slabs suffer, resists abrasion and tyre traffic, reflects light to brighten the space, and needs little more than mopping to maintain. For warehouses and retail it is hard to beat on whole-of-life cost; for homes and showrooms it delivers a clean, contemporary surface with serious toughness.
Grinding, repair and finish level
We assess the slab first — its hardness, flatness and any cracks or patches — because the existing concrete dictates the achievable finish. We repair defects, grind and densify, then polish to the gloss level you want and seal it against stains. Where a slab is too damaged to polish, we will tell you and recommend a coating instead.
The products and systems we use
Concrete grinding does two jobs: it opens up a floor for coating and it can deliver a finished polished-concrete look in its own right. We grind to the right profile for whatever system follows, and for a decorative finish we install Ardex PANDOMO Floor toppings sealed with PANDOMO Impregnation, or level substrates with Sika Sikafloor-81 EpoCem. Diamond grinding removes coatings, laitance and high spots and leaves a sound, bondable surface.

Polished concrete FAQs
Q: Is polished concrete the same as a coating?
A: No — it is the ground and densified concrete itself, so there is no film to peel or recoat. That is why it lasts.
Q: Can any slab be polished?
A: Most sound slabs can, but the existing concrete sets the achievable finish. We assess hardness and condition first and advise honestly.
Q: How do you maintain a polished floor?
A: Routine mopping is usually all it needs — no stripping or resealing like a coated floor, which keeps running costs low.
Q: Is polished concrete the same as grinding?
A: Grinding is the process; a true decorative finish uses a system like Ardex PANDOMO over the ground slab. We grind for either a coating-ready profile or a finished polished look.
