A swimming pool lives in a brutal environment — constant water, chemicals, UV and movement — so it needs a coating built for it. Goliath Coatings applies specialist pool coatings across Auckland that waterproof and finish concrete pools, restoring a sound, watertight, good-looking surface that stands up to years of use.
What pool coatings have to handle
Pool coatings must be fully waterproof, resist chlorine and pool chemicals, tolerate constant immersion and UV, and flex with the slight movement of the structure — all while staying smooth and attractive underwater. A general coating will blister, chalk or delaminate in a pool; a proper pool system is engineered for permanent immersion and the chemistry that goes with it.
Preparation is everything in a pool
Adhesion underwater is unforgiving, so preparation is critical. We assess the shell for cracks, hollow render and previous coating failures, repair the substrate, then prepare it mechanically so the new system bonds. Skipping this is the number-one reason pool coatings fail early — water finds every shortcut, and we do not take any.
Resurfacing and waterproofing
We recoat and resurface tired or leaking concrete pools, sealing the shell against water loss and giving it a fresh, durable finish. We assess the pool, explain the system and the colour options, and apply it to manufacturer specification so it performs through seasons of swimming, sun and chemical dosing.
The products and systems we use
A pool coating has to handle constant immersion, chlorine and UV. For the toughest, longest-life finish we use two-pack LUXAPOOL Epoxy on concrete, marble-sheen, fibreglass and pebblecrete, and single-pack LUXAPOOL Chlorinated Rubber for a simpler recoat of previously rubber-painted pools. We also use NZ-made waterborne Regis Epotread AQ-1 and Sika Sikagard-140 Pool, backed by Sika’s pool waterproofing range. The shell is prepared and any leaks addressed before coating so the finish bonds and holds colour.

Pool coating FAQs
Q: Can you fix a leaking concrete pool?
A: Often yes — we assess the shell, repair the cracks and defects causing the loss, then apply a waterproof pool system over a properly prepared surface.
Q: Why not use a normal coating in a pool?
A: Constant immersion, chemicals and UV destroy general coatings. Pool systems are engineered for permanent immersion and pool chemistry.
Q: What matters most for a pool coating to last?
A: Preparation — repairing the shell and mechanically preparing it so the system bonds. Underwater, poor prep fails fast.
Q: How long does a pool coating last?
A: A two-pack epoxy like LUXAPOOL Epoxy typically gives 7–10 years before a recoat; chlorinated rubber is lower-cost but needs recoating sooner. We match the system to your pool’s surface and history.
