Carpark Waterproofing (Membranes)

A leaking carpark deck drips onto vehicles and parking below and lets water and salt attack the structural concrete. Goliath Coatings delivers carpark waterproofing across Auckland with trafficable deck membrane systems engineered to take vehicle loads, tyre scrub and constant weather.

What carpark waterproofing has to withstand

A carpark deck membrane is the hardest-working waterproofing on any building — it must be fully watertight yet tough enough for turning vehicles, point loads and braking. Carpark waterproofing uses a heavy-duty trafficable system: a flexible waterproof base, a reinforced wearing layer and a UV-stable, anti-slip topcoat that handles tyre scrub without tearing or wearing through.

Protecting the structure and the cars

Beyond keeping the level below dry, the membrane stops chloride-laden water reaching the reinforcing steel — the single biggest cause of expensive concrete cancer in parking structures. Line marking and bay numbering can be reinstated over the cured system, so the deck goes back into service looking sharp and fully protected.

New decks and re-waterproofing

We waterproof new suspended decks and strip-and-replace failed membranes on existing carparks, staging the work bay by bay where the carpark must stay partly open. We assess falls and drainage first, because ponding water is the enemy of any deck coating, and correct them where needed.

The products and systems we use

A car park deck has to be waterproof and stand up to constant vehicle traffic, so we use trafficable deck systems built for it. We install seamless PU systems such as Mapei Mapefloor Parking System HE with high crack-bridging, fast-return Sika Sikafloor traffic deck coatings, and fully-bonded weldable sheet membranes like Ardex WPM 1000 under traffic finishes. The system is detailed at falls, joints and penetrations so water reaches the drains, not the level below.

Carpark waterproofing FAQs

Q: Can the carpark stay open during the work?

A: Usually yes — we can stage trafficable deck systems bay by bay so part of the carpark remains in use while we work.

Q: How is carpark waterproofing different from a normal membrane?

A: It has a reinforced wearing course and anti-slip topcoat built to take vehicle traffic, turning and braking, which a standard roof membrane cannot.

Q: Can you reinstate line marking afterwards?

A: Yes — we reinstate bay lines and numbering over the cured deck system as part of the job.

Q: What goes on a car park deck to stop leaks into the level below?

A: A trafficable waterproof deck system — for example Mapefloor Parking System HE or an Ardex WPM 1000 sheet membrane — that takes vehicle traffic while keeping the structure below dry.
